Description

The Octagon Hotel in Valley Falls, Kansas, was built by Dr. Lorenzo Northrup as a home in 1858 and became a hotel in 1865. According to the Valley Falls Historical Society, it was built as an 8-sided structure in following with the advice of phrenologist and social reformer Orson Fowler, who tried to convince people to become vegetarians and live in 8-sided houses.
